Art
The Principles of our Curriculum:
- Knowledge is valued and specified
- Knowledge is well sequenced
- Knowledge is taught to be remembered
Our art curriculum allows children to develop an understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of the visual arts with the aim of enriching their understanding, experience and response to the world. Through research-led pedagogy, Angel Road children will learn to make connections between the work of artists, architects and designers and their own work. Opportunities for self-expression are provided to give children the space to learn who they are as an artist by exploring a wide range of mediums. Our art curriculum aims to provide extensive opportunities for children to develop their skills in visual literacy, their vocabulary and their communication skills by looking at, thinking and talking about art. Furthermore, our art curriculum seeks to show how art shapes our history and contributes to cultures.
Our curriculum is sequenced for progression in skills and knowledge from Nursery to Year 6. Skills involve using a diverse range of mediums and knowledge covers concepts, elements and types of art. This ensures children at Angel Road achieve well in art. We use the Primary Knowledge Curriculum to support our planning and resourcing for all children, including those with SEND and from disadvantaged backgrounds. We have high ambitions for all our children; we scaffold learning when needed so that all children achieve well in art.
